Our life is determined by polarities. Each wave has a negative and a positive extreme. Our world is composed of energy, and thus of waves. Taoism emphasises a unit of polar opposites, namely Yin and Yang.

Why are some people happy and others aren’t? For me, happiness is the greatest wealth, for what more wonderful thing exists than living happily, enjoying each moment in its fullest and viewing life as a gift, rather than a burden? Along the path of life, the sun won’t shine the entire time, and it’s all about mastering even the hardest of times with hope and faith. Listen to your feelings, no matter what they are. Feel the happiness and feel the sadness. Learn to deal with them and to make the best out of it.

Recognise all your feelings and learn to understand what your unconscious or subconscious is trying to signal you. Work on what you want to achieve and keep it constantly in mind.

It’s not about dancing through life, sky high and jubilant, but rather about experiencing the good times with more intensity and making it through the difficult times even better. It’s not just about accepting everything that placed your path; it’s about finding your inner paint with which to colour in your life.

I’m learning to develop the serenity,

to be courageous and strong in changing everything I can,

and the intelligence to be able to tell the one from the other. 

HOW IS HAPPINESS DEFINED?

The official definition of happiness

To feel happiness – to be in a state of emotional well-being, as experienced by a person.

The scientific definition of happiness

Happiness arises through the influence of endorphins, oxytocins and the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. The brain releases these communicative chemicals during various activities, such as eating, sex or exercise, but also in states of satisfied relaxation.

A simple definition of happiness

People who are happy have a super positive radiance, a wide grin on their face and would like nothing more than to stroll through the streets dancing and singing.

Happiness is a state which we can reach, if we are satisfied and in harmony with our life. Inner peace and inner harmony allow us to radiate happiness.

When I’m happy, I feel truly successful, because that’s when my smile shines brighter than the sun 😉 Happy people have an optimistic and positive attitude toward life.

WHAT IS HAPPINESS ACTUALLY?

Happiness is the word that’s still missing from our vocabulary. There’s thankfulness, cheerfulness, sadness, satisfaction and many other words, but happiness isn’t used very often.

You create your own happiness when you make the best of every situation, when you set goals for yourself and when you successfully reach them.

We humans need recognition. We need to be our own biggest fan. That’s possible when we accomplish things of which we can be proud.

You can create happiness by exposing yourself to happy situations – like, for example, a walk through nature or a conversation with happy people. Just be happy in the here and now and with what you are and what you have.

Don’t take it all too seriously. Laugh more and show the world that you’re happy. Make it your conscious responsibility to create happy situations every day. Make those around you laugh, and inject a dose of happiness into their lives.

COLLECT YOUR “HAPPY MUSIC”

Collect music that evokes positive, happy emotions in you. It should bring you positive dreams and create happy moments.

Close your eyes and let yourself be carried away to your dream world on the wings of the melodies.

Ensure that the music makes you happy and not sentimental or pensive. Music is an important resource and an anchor for your feelings.

HAPPINESS THROUGH CLARITY

How often do you want to say no, but end up saying yes? Do you let yourself be persuaded to do something too easily, and then regret it afterwards? Strengthen your decision-making power and you’ll strengthen your feelings of self-worth at the same time. Learn to represent your decisions to others in a friendly, yet confident way. You can even say “no” with a smile on your face. If you want to strengthen your decision, you can provide a reason for it, even just with simple phrase like, ‘I’m sorry, I’ll have to say no, because I just don’t have time.’

Smile while doing so, but have a firm and certain voice, for your conversational partner can feel it when your body language doesn’t match up with your words. Try to keep aggressiveness out of the conversation unless absolutely necessary. But if it simply isn’t working, react energetically and with certainty. Say and express what you want!

HAPPINESS AND ETHICS

Everything comes back around. People that do good, get good in return. This law functions in the positive as well as negative directions. Hold tight to positive, humane values.

BE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF IN THE HERE AND NOW!

Control your happiness through your consciousness. Smile and tell yourself this affirmation again and again:

‘I am happy and satisfied and everything is getting better and better with every passing moment!’

That is the most important point that I want to share with you. Compare it to the soil. If the soil isn’t fertile, even the very best of seeds won’t grow. If the soil is fertile, then nearly all seeds will grow.

The same happens within you. If you are happy and satisfied with who you are and what you have, then you have access to a fertile plot, where you can bring all the seeds you want to sprout.

Learn to be happy and satisfied

with who you are and what you have,

and everything else will follow!

The next essential point is that you have to decide in which environment you would like to live.

Let me make a comparison: a palm doesn’t grow, at least not well, in cold regions, as it needs warmth. A polar bear, on the other hand, needs the colder regions to survive.

If you don’t enjoy your present surroundings, and it’s not good for your life and your progression, then leave it and find your ideal environment for your life, your happiness and your success in life.

YOUR PROGRAM TO HAPPINESS

Preparation:

Get a hold of a notebook with empty pages. Fill this book with all your new experiences, feelings, your understanding and with the situations you experience. That is your happiness journal. If you would like, you can use your computer, your tablet or your smartphone. There are several wonderful apps, like ‘Day One’, which you can use.

Answer the following questions daily, and write the answers in your happiness journal:

  • Which good situations and moments did I experience today?

  • Which happiness techniques did I use today?

  • Which changes have I discovered in my actions and feelings?

  • What did I do today to improve my health?

  • What did I do today to become more fit?

  • Which problems did I encounter today and how did I solve them?

  • What am I particularly proud of today?

  • What will I improve tomorrow?

  • To whom did I give an honest compliment today?

  • What am I especially thankful for today?

  • Which milestones or goals did I achieve today?
