There are two kinds of knowledge. One is general, and the other is specialised. General knowledge, no matter in which quantity and variety it may be, is of but little use in the achievement of success.
Knowledge will not attract success unless it is organised and intelligently directed, through practical plans of action, to the definite end of achievement of success. Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes power only when you transform it into definite plans of action, and directed to a definite end. Anyone can be educated when he knows where to get knowledge, and how to organise that knowledge into definite plans of action.
Thomas A. Edison had only three months of school education during his entire life.
Henry Ford had less than a sixth-grade “schooling.”
Before you can be certain of your ability to transform your desire into its success equivalent, you have to require specialised knowledge of the service or product which you intend to offer in return for prosperity and success in life.
Perhaps you may need much more specialised knowledge than you have the ability or the inclination to acquire, and if this should be sure, you may bridge your weakness through the aid of your Mastermind group.
The achievement of success calls for power, and power is acquired through highly organised and intelligently directed specialised knowledge, but that knowledge does not necessarily have to have the person who wants to achieve success.
The preceding paragraph should give you hope and encouragement when you have the ambition to achieve success and have not possessed of the necessary education to supply such specialised knowledge as it may require.
HOW TO ATTAIN KNOWLEDGE
WHAT YOU NEED
Decide the sort of specialised knowledge you require and the purpose for which it is needed. To a large extent, your principal purpose in life, the goal toward which you are working, will help determine the knowledge you need.
Make a list of specialised knowledge that you need to manifest your statement of desire:
Knowledge is of no value except that which can be gained from its application toward some worthy end.
Successful people, in all callings, never stop acquiring specialised knowledge related to their major purpose in life.
People who are not successful usually make the mistake of believing that the knowledge acquiring period ends when they finish school.
SUCCESS STORY: STUART AUSTIN WIER
Stuart Austin Wier was a Construction Engineer and executed this profession until the Depression impacted as well on his market to where it did not give him the income he required. He started to think of what to do and decided to change his profession to law, went back to school, and took specialised courses by which he prepared himself as a corporation lawyer. Despite the problem that the Depression had not ended still, he completed his studies, passed the exams, and quickly built a lucrative law practice, in Dallas, Texas. In fact, he was so successful that he was turning away clients.
Let´s be clear and anticipate the excuses of those who are going to say, “I can´t go to school because I have a family,” or “I’m too old,” Mr Wier was more than forty years old and was married when he went back to law school.
ACCURATE INFORMATION
Your next move requires that you have precise information concerning dependable sources of knowledge. These include one’s own experience and education, colleges, workshops, specialised training courses, the Internet, and the like. The beginning of any successful business is an idea. People who use their spare time to study seldom stay in the same position very long.
Their action opens the way for more success in lives, removes many obstacles from their path, and gains the interest of those who have the power to offer them a new opportunity.
List the places where you might attain that specialised knowledge either within your present financial means or at no cost to you.
SUCCESS STORY: ENTERPRISING ACCOUNTANT
During the Depression, a salesman in a grocery store lost his job. He had some bookkeeping experience, he took a special course in accounting, familiarised himself with all the latest bookkeeping and office equipment, and started his own business.
Starting with his former employer, he made continuously contracts with more than 100 small merchants to keep their books, at a very reasonable monthly fee. His idea was so good that he set up a portable office in a delivery truck, which he equipped with modern bookkeeping machinery. He built up a fleet of mobile bookkeeping offices and employed a large staff of assistants, providing small merchants with accounting services equal to the best that money can buy, at a very nominal cost.
Specialised knowledge plus imagination were the two most important ingredients for this unique and successful business. In later years the business owner paid almost ten times more income tax as was paid for him by his former employer.
The Depression forced upon him temporary adversity, which proved to be a blessing in disguise.
A CALL TO ACTION
The people who stop studying only because they have finished school are forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity, no matter what their calling may be. The way of success is continuous learning.
Remember, the idea is the main thing. Specific knowledge may be found just around the corner, at any corner!
